Arrows Strike Down Chiefs 3-2
Kaizer Chiefs had the rug pulled out from underneath them on Sunday, 19 February when Golden Arrows surprisingly beat them 3-2.
Eager to avoid a fourth loss in six matches, Chiefs were off to a fiery start at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Johannesburg when S’fiso Hlanti gave them the lead in the eighth minute. Thirty-nine minutes later, team-mate Mduduzi Shabalala slotted their second and final goal into the back of the net.
By the end of the first half, the score was 2-1 (with Arrows’ Ntsako Makhubela scoring in added time), so Amakhosi were seemingly assured of a victory.
Not so: the Durban-based visitors came from behind to seal the win over their hosts, thanks to a brace from striker Knox Mutizwa in the 69th- and 78th-minute marks.
With another loss in the record books, Kaizer Chiefs occupy the Premier Soccer League rankings in fifth place with 28 points, just 27 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns; Golden Arrows are currently in tenth place with 25 points.
